A federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to rights activist De Farotimi for 50 million naira.
A federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to rights activist and legal practitioner De Farotimi in the amount of 50 million naira. Farotimi, who is also the lawyer and spokesperson for the Labour Party presidential campaign council, was arrested in Lagos State and initially faced 16 charges, which were later reduced to 12 counts. He is accused of allegedly defaming a senior advocate of Nigeria, Babalola. The bail conditions require him to provide a guarantor with landed property. The case has been adjourned to 29th January 2025.
Additionally, Mr. Farotimi, who is a legal practitioner himself, was abducted in broad daylight by police officers from the Rapid Response Squad of the police command. He was taken from his law office in Lagos to Kogi State and was arraigned before a magistrate court last week. He has been held in custody since then. A bail application at the magistrate court was adjourned to tomorrow, 10th December. This morning, he was served a fresh summons and was brought by prison officers from the custody center to the federal court.
