The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission is going to have a public hearing to look into why the national grid keeps failing in the country.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has announced that it will hold a public hearing to investigate the recurring national grid failures in the country.

 The agency stated that the public hearing aims to identify the immediate and underlying causes of the recurring incidents of grid disturbances and widespread outages. 

This decision comes after another grid collapse today, which was reportedly caused by an explosion of a current transformer at the Jeba transmission station, leading to a cascade of power plant shutdowns due to the loss of load.

The agency also mentioned that efforts to restore power supply have made significant progress, with power being restored in 33 states and the FCT by 1 p.m. Furthermore, the president of the National Union of Electricity Employees, who was interviewed on TVC News, advocated for sanctions against officials responsible for overseeing power distribution to prevent further grid collapses.

 He emphasized the need for government and stakeholders to come together to address the issues in power generation, transmission, and distribution.
