A 41-year-old Canadian woman, Andre Mongu, was arrested while attempting to smuggle a large consignment of Canadian "loud" cannabis into Nigeria

A 41-year-old Canadian woman, Andre Mongu, was arrested while attempting to smuggle a large consignment of Canadian "loud" (a slang term for high-grade cannabis) into Nigeria through the Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos, according to NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi. The suspect was apprehended during the inward clearance of passengers on a flight from Canada. Babafemi disclosed that Andre, who was visiting Nigeria for the first time, was found with 74 parcels of the illicit substance, stuffed in two of her three bags.

According to the NDLEA, the suspect stated that she had been recruited online to traffic the consignment for $1,000 Canadian dollars, explaining that she needed the money to fund her ongoing master's degree program in Canada. The anti-drug agency also intercepted opioids, including Tramadol and bottles of codeine-based cough syrup, worth over 9 billion naira in street value. These substances were recovered from three containers coming from India.

Similarly, NDLEA operatives at the Tincan Seaport in Lagos intercepted another 100 parcels of Canadian "loud," weighing 50 kilograms. The consignment was packed in 20 parcels, each concealed in five jumbo bags within a container, along with four imported vehicles from Canada. Although the container had earlier been cleared out of the terminal in Ikorodu, credible intelligence led NDLEA operatives to trace it to a warehouse in Ikorodu, where the drugs were discovered. A suspect, Abubakar Shu Ibrahim, has been taken into custody in connection with the seizure.

In Taraba State, NDLEA officers intercepted a commercial bus traveling from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Jalingo, and recovered large quantities of opioids concealed in the vehicle. Two suspects, Bak Thomas and Emmanuel Anigo, were arrested. Another suspect, Chibuzo Okafor, was arrested in Wukari with 80 blocks of cannabis weighing 38 kilograms, hidden in bags of garri. Additionally, in Lagos, a suspect named B.A. Jifuja was arrested in the Alaba area of Ojo, where 700 liters of "skuchies," a mixture of local Chapman and illicit drugs, were recovered from her.

Three other suspects, Ezekiel A. Elijah, Michael, and Gabriel John, were also arrested when NDLEA operatives raided two cannabis farms located at Bridge Camp, a boundary community between Edo and Ondo States
