Ministry Of Environment Seals Up Property Built On Natural Habitat In Lagos State

 The Lagos State government is urging developers and builders to refrain from encroaching on wetlands. This comes after the Ministry of Environment sealed a private estate being developed on a wetland in Bagada. 

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokumbo Wahab, made this announcement following an inspection tour of enforcement and project sites. It was revealed that several wetlands across the state, including Jigo, But Kuru, and others, are being encroached upon for estate development without consideration for environmental guidelines. 

The government plans to reclaim these wetlands. Encroaching on designated wetlands in a coastal city or state below sea level poses a serious risk, and it is crucial to prioritize environmental protection. These are important issues that need to be addressed, and it starts with each and every one of us.
