The recent developments concerning the potential out-of-court settlement between the Federal Government of Nigeria and Nnamdi Kanu have sparked hope among Nigerians and Ndigbo, according to Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

The group mentioned that the decision of the Federal High Court in Abuja to adjourn proceedings until September 2024, and the encouragement for both parties to pursue negotiations and settlements under Section 17 of the High Court Act, indicate a glimmer of hope for justice and reconciliation.

In a press statement, the Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, expressed concerns about certain South East Governors, Political Elites, and misguided Elders who may be obstructing Nnamdi Kanu's release for personal gain and diverting state resources under the pretext of addressing the region's security challenges.

Isiguzoro also raised concerns about political elites and individuals posing as patriots who may be looking to exploit the situation for personal gain, rather than focusing on securing Nnamdi Kanu's release. He also highlighted the activities of criminals posing as Biafra agitators, such as Simon Ekpa, who are contributing to the escalating security challenges in the Southeast.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo issued a strong warning to those seeking to impede Nnamdi Kanu's release, emphasizing the detrimental impact of the region's security challenges and economic consequences resulting from civil disobedience on the people of the Southeast.

The group also expressed grave concern over the actions of a specific South East Governor who appears to be obstructing Nnamdi Kanu's release for personal political gain, and warned that punitive measures and disciplinary actions will be taken against individuals or groups hindering the region's pursuit of peace and justice.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo called on esteemed Igbo leaders and statesmen, such as Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Chief Ebitu Ukiwe, Senator Ike Nwachukwu, and others, to lend their support to the efforts for Nnamdi Kanu's release, emphasizing the importance of their involvement in advancing the out-of-court settlements.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to peace, justice, and the well-being of all Ndigbo, and called for unity, justice, and prosperity for the South East region.
