The Rivers State Representatives Caucus has disavowed a member for comments made about Ugochinyere.
The Rivers State caucus in the House of Representatives has rejected Hon. Dumnamene Deekor as its leader and spokesperson, stating he was not authorized to represent the caucus.
In a statement issued by the caucus leader, Awaji-Inombek D. Abiante, a previous statement by Deekor, where he called for sanctions against Ikenga Ugochinyere, coordinator of the G-60 lawmakers, for allegedly interfering in Rivers politics, was repudiated.
Abiante clarified that the caucus leadership is determined by seniority, and as such, a second-term lawmaker like Deekor cannot assume leadership over more senior members. He emphasized that all members have the right to voice their opinions on national issues, as they are sworn to uphold Nigeria's integrity.
The statement also addressed the popular saying, 'Everyone is entitled to their opinion,' but made it clear that the caucus does not endorse Deekor's unilateral stance, as he was never chosen to speak for the group.
The caucus highlighted that it is well-established and precedented that its leadership, as well as that of the National Assembly, is based on seniority. Therefore, Deekor, being a second-term lawmaker, does not have the authority to claim the role of caucus leader amidst lawmakers serving their third or fourth terms.
The public has been advised to disregard the statement issued by Deekor.
