Former Chief of Defence Staff has passed away, more details are emerging.
Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi (rtd), the former chief of defence staff in the Fourth Republic, has passed away. The news was announced by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the director of defence information, in a brief statement on Sunday, June 30. Ogohi, who served as the chief of defence staff from 1999 to 2003 under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, died at his residence in Abuja in the early hours of Sunday.
Admiral Ogohi, a native of Okura, Lafia, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, was the first naval officer to achieve the rank of four-star general in the Nigerian military. According to a family source, he had been battling age-related illnesses prior to his passing.
In a separate development, President Bola Tinubu has condemned the killing of soldiers in the Southeast, describing it as a treasonable act. He urged the military to apprehend those responsible and emphasized that the military's restraint should not be perceived as weakness.
Furthermore, President Tinubu highlighted the legal action taken against the 36 governors by the federal government, expressing his belief that governors should prioritize local communities and address the neglect of the local government.
