Borno [Nigeria], June 30 (ANI): A series of bomb blasts in Borno State, northeast Nigeria, resulted in the death of at least 18 individuals and left 48 others injured, according to CNN, which cited the state's emergency services.

The initial explosion occurred at a wedding ceremony around 3 PM local time on Saturday, succeeded by another at General Hospital Gwoza and a subsequent one at a funeral, as reported by CNN.

The local state emergency management agency's head attributed the attacks to suspected suicide bombers.

WION, referencing an AFP report, stated that a state police spokesperson disclosed that in one of the three Gwoza blasts, a woman with a baby strapped to her back set off explosives during a wedding ceremony.

The detonation happened around 3:45 PM local time when "a woman with a baby on her back triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) she was carrying at a crowded motor park," said Borno State police spokesperson Nahum Kenneth Daso.

The same female assailants also targeted a hospital and executed an additional attack at the funeral of the wedding blast victims, as per WION's report, which cited AFP.

Baekindo Saidu, Director General of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the fatalities, which included children, adults, and pregnant women.

"The range of injuries varied from abdominal ruptures and skull fractures to limb fractures," Saidu stated, as reported by Reuters.

According to AFP, Saidu mentioned that 19 severely injured individuals were transported to the regional capital Maiduguri, while 23 others are pending evacuation.

The town of Gwoza, situated near the Cameroon border, has experienced over a decade of violence. Boko Haram took control of Gwoza in 2014, but it was reclaimed by the Nigerian military with assistance from Chadian forces the following year.
