Ann Bevan was once dubbed the ugliest woman in the world.

She entered the “ugliest woman” contest and was chosen as the winner. After the unpopular fame, she was employed by a freak show promoter.

But was she really ugly?

Ann born in 1874, was a married woman who developed acromegaly in her early thirties. This caused the abnormal growth of her facial structures. Few years into her illness her husband passed and she was left penniless.

To provide for her children she entered the contest for the ugliest woman in the world.

What many didn't know was that Ann wasn't an ugly woman per se. She was just sick.

Before acromegaly, she was a very beautiful nurse.
